I'm looking at getting a Gerbings heated jacket liner with a dual heat-troller for this winters riding season. Jacket liner first then gloves or pants liner at a later date. I can get by again this winter wearing my chaps under my bibs to keep my legs comfortable. Of course the artic longhandles help also.

Am I right in understanding that you can just hook the heat-troller directly to the battery? How do you guys route it out from underneath the tupperware and do you wear the controller or have it mounted somewhere on the bike and how do you have it mounted?

Talked to the dealer and if I get the jacket liner this week then he will take $70 off the price of the dual heat-troller or throw a regular one in for free. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Thank you for any advice!

Stuart...

I have an 88 1500!
I don't know what happened to the information in my profile, it was all in there recently. I've had that filled out for the past few years.

Neil, do not know what type of Wing you are riding (fill out your profile) but on my 1500 initially I had the Gerbings wiring connected directly to the battery (later I added a fuse block and connected it to that) I then routed the plug into the left-hand fairing box. The connection for the wife I stowed behind the lower passenger back rest. I have not yet mounted anything on my '08 but I plan on doing this over the winter.

I have two connectors directly to the batt. One for me and one for co-pilot. They are routed out from behind the battery cover and hang there. Each have dual controllers.
If I had it to do again I would not buy the handheld dual control - I would buy the panel mount dual controller and mount mine down by my flasher panel (1800). We each have the clip on controller holder which you have to attach to whatever outer jacket you have on and not all my jackets have a good place to clip it. I also then have to usually reach down around my left side and hunt for the knobs.

Gerbings have the same plug in a as a battery tender. So if you already have a battery tender wired to your battery, you can plug it there. I just run the wire out over the top of the side cover and zip tied it to the left rear hand hold. As for the heat-troller, I have the leather pouch you buy as an accessory. It has a belt clip on and I just hang it on my pocket.

I use the "portable" dual controller but it is inconvenient to clip it on my outer jacket. This season I plan to velcro it somewhere convenient although I have not ruled out a permanently mounted controller. The only issue with that is I haven't found any panel mount coax connectors yet.

For the portable controller, I have a coax pigtail poking out from under the left front of the seat during the cold weather - and tuck it underneath during warm weather. Its a convenient location when using the portable controller. For my co-rider's heat controller and for connecting a battery maintainer, I have a Powerlet connection mounted as shown at

Neil we have a 1500 the wife and I both have the gerbing jacket liners and union ridge pants, also I have the heated gloves.I have both hooked directly in to the battery which is what gerbing recomends. The fuse side hooks in to the positive post of the battery.I ran mine under the seat and out the front of the seat then velcrowed the controler to the flat spot just in front of the door for the gas tank.
My has arm rest with pouchs on them so hers I ran underneith the frame and seat and ot under the left side of the seat were the intercom wires come and then with the clip on holders you can buy from gerbing clip it to the inside of the left pouch.I hope that helps. If you think you can afford them go ahead and get the union ridge pants, and you will no longer have to be wearing long johns are leathers.
We have rode for over 200 miles when the tempeter was twenty degrees out on a sunny day and stayed very comfortable.Did not even have the heat turned all the way up.

I have Gerbings for 9 years. On my 1989 Trike for over 7 years and now my 2009. Hooked up same on both. Wire harness direct to battery. Contoller velcroed to top shelter for easy access and stowed away when not needed. Conectors come out from front left fairing for me and along with passenger audio cable for passenger.

Neil,
I think you should be able to link to this Delphi post I made, with pictures. I used a dual-semi-mount-portable setup with panel mounted jacks for the plug-ins. Nice and clean.

Neil, He must be selling you the old model if he's knocking off that much!!!!!! Gerbing came out this year with a new type of wiring, it's a good deal, but it's the old style, so you know..
