Lower fog/running lights.

What is the common bulb number?

I know the OEM Honda bulb cant be the only game in town.

I also know I am just being lazy but I am willing to bet that several of you guys know the answer off the top of your heads.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,
While I don't know the number right off, it seems to me that the factory bulb is a double filament(Honda only uses one in this application). I believe you can solder a short piece of wire or maybe even turn the bulb 180 degrees and get double life out of the factory unit.

You can either turn the socket 180 degrees or you can put a jumper across the two contacts. If you don't like either of those options then check with Venco Wings or the Electrical connection for different bulbs.

I also soldered the two posts together when I lost the first filament on my 1500.

Then I went for the 1800 because the lights are so much better!

lol

I dont have a dog in this hunt... but if you solder the two contacts together while the bulb is still good, will BOTH filaments light up giving you more light?

Just wondering....

Both filaments will light and the bulb will get twice as hot. I don't know how much more light output you will get. I am concerned that my bulbs burn out too quickly in my 98 Wing. Has anyone come up with a way to get them to last longer?

Might also want to consider the additional current draw with two filaments burning. Is the wire suitable? Is the fuse/breaker suitable for the load? Is the wire suitable for the fuse? Are the contacts in the switch capable of handling the extra load? Just an electrician here with minor questions.

Is there no LED replacment for this bulb...?

It seems this is a common problem maybe some research into the right LED would help a LOT of folks...?

I don't have them on my 1500 so I really don't care if one is found or not..but it makes sense to me...

Bill,
Easiest thing for me was to just convert the housing to accept a H3 bulb. I ran new wires from relays, used JB Weld to hold the H3 in the housing, and drilled 3 1/2" holes on the top of the lights for venting. No problems on either of my Wings, and a whole hell of a lot more light output from down below.
Let me know if you need more detailed information about the install.

Doesn't someone have a method (kit?) to convert them to yellow running lights (on all the time)...?

Then you could change them to LEDs and it would look cool too..!

Carl,
Here is my next conversion idea: http://www.autolumination.com/switchback.html . The bulbs at the bottom of the page. I figure that these would give a cool effect to the driving lights, having them as white lights, and automaticaly turn off the white when the blinker is activated. Cool technology. I am not sure about the reflector surface inside of the cowl light, as far as whether it will reflect out a bright enough beam, but will update when I get around to trying it this winter.
