I am unable to start my 1500 when in gear. With the side stand up and the clutch lever fully depressed I can hear the click (the second click) of whatever switch is activated, but when the starter switch is pushed the headlight dims as normal but the starter motor does not function. Shift to neutral and everything is fine. Kill switch is OK and the ignition was recycled with no results. Where's the gremlin?

microswitch(s) on clutch lever need to be cleaned. WD40 followed by electrical contact cleaner from radio shack. Put cloth covering over any painted surface under the lever and spray liberally while manipulating the clutch lever. When it is cleaned, follow with the contact cleaner to displace the WD40. WD40 will attract junk if left on switch.

Thanks gentlemen. Bike is currently at another property anticipating getting put away for the winter but I'll clean all switches as suggested next weekend then I guess I'll have to test ride it one more time. Tough duty but I'll gladly volunteer.

The 1st click you hear is for cruise cancelation, 2nd lick is for starter circuit. Most likely the sidestand switch in my opinion.

You'll find that if you glue a piece of metal on the clutch lever where it comes in contact with the switch you will never have a problem again.Use JB weld as your glue.

I have a trike doing the same thing. It still has the side stand, but of course it is never used. Of late I have had to push the clutch lever away from the grip in order to get the cruise to set (I believe the bushing has worn). That shouldn't cause the switch on the clutch lever to keep the starter circuit from working should it?
