07/1800 30K miles. For a while now there is a loss of power during the engine warm up. I have watched the temp gauge and it is consistent every time. It appears that when the engine temp gauge is at the 3rd mark (up from cold) I drop in power considerably. This last for about 3 to 5 seconds and then it has reached normal operating temp and runs fine the rest of the day. If I am moving and not paying attention to the temp I can get into a bad situation if I am say, in a slow turn in a parking lot or making a turn at a traffic light. It appears that when the electronics are "shifting" from "warm up" mode to normal temp mode something is not switching fast enough. I have ask several people that I ride with (1800) and they say they have noticed the same condition.
Has anyone experienced this? It happens every time the engine gets below the normal operating range.

William, are you talking about the drop in RPM, or the actual power drop? How can you feel a power drop in a slow turn?

It is drop in power. The engine will continue to slow down to the point where one can actually fall over and it is unresponsive to an increase in the throttle.

My 2005 GL-1800 does not have a problem like mentioned. I allow it to warm up slowly for about one minute then I ride it at a moderate speed till it becomes fully warmed up. I bought it new and have been riding it since then with absolutely no indication of what is mentioned. I'm not saying it does not happen to others but I'm sure it does not happen on my GL-1800. Compared to the carburated/manual choke full dressers I have owned, this one is 100% better than them.

William.....if it's still under warranty, what does the dealer say?
Keep the sunny side up and the rubber side down.

I'd do a re-set on the computer. Disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. Then reconnect and start the bike WITHOUT TOUCHING THE THROTTLE!

Let it warm up till the fans kick in. Might take 12 or 15 minutes, be patient.

MOST IMPORTANTLY... do NOT touch that throttle when restarting.

This is the warm up for me. I get on it and go slow (under 40 MPH) in 3rd gear til needle is in the operating range.

William, yes I notice it also. I start mine, put my riding clothes on, then takeoff. Engine up about 3 bars on temp, not at the normal position. Slight rpm sag, minor but can feel it. Lasts maybe a second or two and then goes. Once engine warms to norm, works great. If I leave the engine to warm up completely before taking off, it doesn't happen. Had a car with a water/outside air temp sensor go bad (senses when the coolant is warm enough) and then sends a signal to computer/fuel control to change fuel/air ratio change. I would have to pull it into low gear and more pedal until engine warmed up.

I believe that Joe Durning's suggestion cured the problem. I left the battery disconnected for 24 hours and followed Joe's instructions.(see 4th post up) I rolled the bike out of the garage, started the engine and let the fans cycle on three times. I put the bike back in the garage and waited 24hrs before I tested it, I wanted the bike to be completely cold before the test. I can honestly say that the power loss that I had experienced on engine warm up has completely disappeared.
