I need your advice(again). I wish to attach a flag pole & 6x9 flag to the FM antenna. I have purchased the Show Chrome flag pole (p/n 52-713).

Before I take the flag pole out of the factory wrapping, I want to ask you if anyone has had a negative experience by mounting the flag pole on the antenna. Does the flag pole put too much stress on the antenna mount or trunk? I am thinking that since the Kuryakyn passenger armrests don’t seem to cause any damage, the flag pole won’t either.

Am I safe to put the flag pole on? Your knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

They have a tendency to snap the antenna.

I have a flag on both antenna's 50 days and can't see any problems. They are flown from the antenna no pole.

Scott, you're safe with the pole. Frank, it's just a matter of time and then money.

Frank, I agree with Bob, especially with the CB antenna. I have replaced one recently for that very reason. It snapped off right above the swivel locking sleeve. Flag poles attached to the antenna base will not harm the antenna. However, The chrome plated flag mounts attached to the base of the CB antenna will change the SWR on it.

I have flown two flags, one on each antenna, for over 100,000 miles (04) with no problems. They are both fairly low, just above touching the trunk, that is, never any part of the flags touching the trunk. Your results may vary.

Thank you all for your input. If I understand the warnings, the biggest problems come when you attach flags to the actual antenna and not the base.

If this is correct, then I am going to try the ShowChrome pole since it mounts on the rigid part of the base, just below the swivel.

Thanks again, Scott

Scott,

VP Accessories has flag poles that mount to the plastic just behind the passenger backrest. They fold down and are out of the slip stream so they last a long time.

I've used them for a couple of years and they are great.

Scott...
Don't put your flags straight on the ant. / it will snap and end up in the radiator of the car, behind you ... I know ... NOW..
Get tha' ant. flag pole, Yes, it will slap and fade the flags, but what tha' heck.
Afew months later you can buy fresh new ones. They're only 10 bucks each.
I have one pole, on my FM ant. It carries two flags, One American 6x9 AND a 6x9 MIA...
Strengthen the ant. base, keeps it from folding over (flag pole) I wrapped some 1/4 cloth tape around it, numerous times.
Also... the dome tip of the flag pole will hit the ant. now and then, causing some cheap chrome, damage ... but, other than that....it's a motorcycle...GO FOR IT !

Flag Pole Picture Link

I bought this set-up from Russ Magers (look for him on the board) and it works great in my opinion. I also bought 2 extra "bases" from Russ (the lower section of the pole) so I could put the attaching mount low on the antenna and still get the flags above the paint...

I have flown flags on these for days on end and usually have some kind of ribbons fluttering on them at all times with no problems.

:-)

I did once fly flags off the antennas and ended up replacing an antenna..they will break off eventually...
