The bike died when I went out to get in one of my last rides of the year last week. Have had my WESTCO battery for 5 seasons & apx 22K miles. Had the battery tested at an auto parts place....said it is bad. The bike is doing strange stuff......a couple of the relays on the left side of the bike are "clicking" rapidly when the key is turned to the "ON" position. My first thought was the battery, and it DID test bad, but wondering if it might be something further. ALSO.....read in a posting on here that some consider the WESTCO battery to be "junk", and it seems to me that I did some checking before I bought THIS one in May of 05 that it was one of the better ones, and it seems to me from what I have read here and in Wingworld that 5 seasons out of a battery is doing good. Need advice on which battery is considered best for the money. Can get another WESTCO for about $88 shipped from Chromeworld.

A friend of mine routinely got 4-5 years out of a regular lead/acid battery in his Voyager XII. He did just replace it this year with a glass mat battery. I've been running a glass mat battery for the past 3 years I think and no problems so far. We both use battery tenders though which does help with battery longevity.

I've used the stock Yuasa or equivalent batteries over the years. They give me decent service. Trying to squeeze a few more months out of a battery near its end life is foolish economy. Murphy's Law will always kick in at the most inappropriate time and place. Carry motorcycle battery booster cables along too as you can always get a needed boost or give one.
Best regards,

Jim
