I have read a lot about ROTELLA oil used by many GWRRA members. Today, here in Ontario, Canada, I saw SHELL ROTELLA 'T' oil in a white jug with a blue label. Is that suitable for use in my 85 GL1200 'Limited Edition'? I am not sure what the correct filter is since I haven't changed the oil myself before. Once I find it, i can change the oil for winter storage. Just got myself a battery 'maintainer' today. Can I hook it up to the battery while it's still hooked up on the bike? If so, hopefully it won't bugger up the digital instruments on the 'Limited Edition'.

Either Rotella will work, your choice regular or high test :-) Hook the maintainer up you`ll be fine. Do you have the owners manual?

Use the Rotella in the blue jug. It's a little harder to come by but most companies can order it in for you.

The white jug is dino oil, good oil, but it is not the synthetic oil found in the blue jug.

I faithfully used Honda oil (10W-40) in my '83 1100.

Recently I tried the Rotella synthetic (blue jug) 10W-30 and did not like it. Seemed to shift harder, which surprised me as it is a thinner oil and others praised it for easier shifing!! I ran it for about 500 miles, then dumped it out and put it in my Chevy pickup. It seemed to do a bit better on it!!

Now I am running Rotella T (white jug) in 15W-40. It is a truck-grade oil and safe for our wet clutches. I like it a lot and the shifting is great.

I'm thinking our older Wings are better off with dino oil.

As for the battery maintainer, I have one on my Aspy (with digital gauges) with the hard-wired plug to the battery. It is plugged in every time it is parked. No problems.

Ross has listed the correct filter number.
STP and a few others have cycle filters-check a conversion chart.

In the US, many Wal-marts carry cycle filters.

I have used the Rotella T syn. in blue jug for several years. Recently noticed that Mobile 1 syn. 10W40 (NON energy concerving)is cheaper per quart in Walmart. Thinking about trying it.

From what I understand they don't sell Rotella in the blue jug in Canada, or its pretty difficult to get. The white jug mineral oil is good stuff also.

John,

Most industrial supply shops or shops catering to heavy duty truck parts can order in Rotella in the blue jug for you despite not carrying it on the shelves. Ask around. A friend of mine said he can order it through Lordco Auto Supply as well. Hard to find in Canada but it is available.

Gary,

I have to say I feel like the minority but my experience with the Rotella Blue has been exactly the same. The difference in shifting alone is remarkable.
