Sunday, October 25, 2009 06:23 am | We have two wings. I ride a 08 GL1800 and the wife rides a 09 GL1800. My problem is with low speed handling. My bike is like its off balance at low speed or when i come to a stop. At low speeds i have to keep turning the wheel in order to keep her up. Sometimes I even have to put a foot down or drag my feet. When I come to a stop I have o be ready to plant my feet because she wants to go over. this problem is multiplied when riding on wet roads or lose gravel. My wife's 09 on the other hand handles well at low speeds. On hers I can do low speed figure 8's with no problem, I can even come to a stop and balance there for a second or so before putting my feet down. I thought it might be the tires. I took off a perfectly good set of tires and replaced them with new cobra's. That didn't do any good. Still thinking it was the tires, with her disapproval I swapped the tires from mine to hers and it was still just as bad. My bike has just over 12,000 on her but mileage should not be a factor because it was like this form out of the box. I've had it back to the dealer and after they took it for a (very short) test ride they said it was normal. I know it not normal because i have another bike to compare it to. Sorry for the long post but I'm just trying to give all the facts. |

Sunday, October 25, 2009 08:54 am | Hot too sure my 08 is about the same but it is a far cry better than my 78. The 78 is top heave compared to the 08. In my case i find I have to correct my steering coming to a stop. I just deal with it Allen |

Because no two bikes are identical there may be some but it should not be a lot. |

After that, do you have more(safety chrome) on your bike that on your wife's bike? If the answer is no to each of the sentences above, place both bikes on a level surface on their center stands and raise the front end until the wheel is off the ground. then with a small fish scale attach it with a string to one fork leg above the front fender and with the wheel in the straight ahead position, pull gently and read the lbs it takes to make the wheel deviate. Then do the same thing with the other side and make a note of the lbs. Then repeat this with the other bike. There in may be the problem. James I. Jones |

Monday, October 26, 2009 08:05 am | Steering head bearings should not be worn with only 12,000 miles on them. Have you checked the air pressure and wear in your front and rear tyres? I might also check to see if your front forks have the proper fluid levels and that everything is tight up there. Dave & Anne Hay "Free-lance Curmudgeon" Retired Motor Cop still teaching safety. |
