Saturday, October 24, 2009 06:37 pm | I'm contemplating purchasing either an 1100 cc Shadow or a 1300 cc VTX (late model say, 2005). All things being equal, if it was your choice which one would you buy, and why. Any comments on either would be welcomed. I would like it to run errands around home and just to joy ride the country roads. I would still have my 1800 Wing for long trips. Thanks, Philip

Saturday, October 24, 2009 06:56 pm | I traded a 1300R on my wing that was a good bike to run around town on just not for anything resembling a long trip only got 140 miles on a take of fuel something like 30 mpg I think. For what you say you want it for I would say go for it. I do know a lady that traded a 750 Shadow on a 1300 VTX and was in hog heaven on the way home |

But .. tha' VTX has a lot of different goodies, you could have more fun with it ? If N, your running errands though, maybe the Shadow with bags and a box, will be a better tool ?! Can ya' get a little test ride ?? Good luck on your decision ... Let us know !! Mac |

She is too short for a wing (we lowered the X with progressives 1.0" in the rear and 1/2" in the front, it actually rides better) (Message edited on October 26, 2009) |

Monday, October 26, 2009 03:22 pm | My 17 year old son has an '06 VTX 1300R. He loves it, he rides it everywhere I ride my 1800 Wing. We rode to the Panhandle of Oklahoma from Norman,OK last weekend, 900 miles. Then the Talamena Drive this past Sunday, 520 miles. He is going to ride it to Grand Canyon and San Francisco this next summer. We have put an Ultimate Big Boy seat on it and it made a world of difference on the ride. If I had to get something other than the Wing it would be the VTX, I really enjoy riding my sons. He has put over 10,000 miles on it in the year he has had it. (Message edited on October 26, 2009) |

If you see me before I get back, please keep me here until I arrive. We can't change our past, but we can change what we do for our future. Thursday, October 29, 2009 03:03 pm | I have a 1300C VTX and a 2003 GL 1800 and they are both good bikes. With a choice between the Shadow and the VTX, it is easy , the VTX every time. My 1300 gets 44 miles/gal. and will go 170 miles before it needs to be switched to reserve. If I had it to do again I might try the 1800. |
