Friday, October 23, 2009 08:21 am | Last night after our annual pumpkin show parade stint I parked my 91 using reverse, something I seldom do. I put the headlight fuse back in ( removed for the parade ) turned the ignition and no headlight, nothing on the instruments except the LCD display and the cruise on light *#@*. Long story short after getting a bite to eat I went back and tried again, decided to move the bike to try a push start, just for SG I moved the reverse lever up and down, VIOLA lights and the bike started. But now it gets weird. Meeting a car on the way home I turned my headlights to low beam and all the lights went out, back to high all came on, it happen twice more so I left them on low and turned the critter spotters on for more light. About a mile plus ALL the normal systems lights went off again, never did comeback so I drove the rest of the way home with the critter lights. After I get done changing #3 relay I`ll try again. It just seemed weird that reverse seems to be tied to this, we shall see. Thanks to Billy for the rescue push into my garage, this after he rescued a 1800 with a probable blown head gasket |

When I get back from taking the one armed wife from the grocery I`ll dig into it a little deep and check the relay box on the back side too.

It's great when I'm working on the trike with the key on and don't want the headlamp to drain the battery too. Terry |

Sunday, October 25, 2009 02:57 pm | I tore the relay box apart today, with the back off there was no sign of burnt or over heated wires, nice and clean and bright. I flushed the whole thing with contact cleaner, checked each relay prong and reapplied di-electric grease. At least I know that`s checked if it happens again, I`ll look else where. Nothing worse than an intermittent electrical problem to trouble shoot. Terry some do that but this is the only parade I do that`s night time, I didn`t put in a switch, that eliminates one more source of a aftermarket problem in the wiring. I`m getting a bit long in tooth to crawl around these things |
