30,000 mile on the 1800. And when my speed drops form upwards of 40mph to around 30mph the handle bars start to wobble. Only on deceleration! Tires have no cupping or flat spots. Tire pressure is 37psi. This is the first time this bike has ever acted up. Honda Mechanic says it happens to all 1800's. Your input please. Nothing else noticeable with handling.

IT HAPPENS TO MOST BIKES. NOT A BIG PROBLEM UNLESS IT IS A 'TANK SLAPPER'. JUST MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PLAY IN THE HEAD BEARINGS AND STEER WITH AT LEAST ONE HAND AT ALL TIMES.

Ray, at about that mileage, I have found that a few 1800s have a slight notch beginning in the steering bearings. Place the bike on the center stand and use a small jack to raise the front wheel just off of the ground. Then with the wheel in the front and center, take your index finger and thumb and grasp the front lip of the front fender and slowly and gently move it to the left and back to the right. What you will be looking for is a little catch when the wheel passes thru dead center. If you have one, the fix is to have All Balls tapered steering bearings put in. If there is no little catch, lower the front wheel and have someone start your bike and place it into first gear. Get down on the ground behind the bike and look at the rear wheel while it is spinning and see if there is any side to side motion in the tire. If so, that will effect the steering. Also, did you recently have the tires changed? You have not given a complete history of anything changed before this happened.

Check the rear tire carefully, and the rear bearings ect. for any free play.

Then check the head bearings for any looseness or catching on them too.

you need to replace the steering bearings and put the all balls in that will take care of that.

I am having a similar problem on my 03 wing. When I am down to 25 MPH and lower I feel a wobble in the handlebars. I haven't had a chance to really check it out but plan to this weekend. I don't see any irregular wear on the front tire but I will be checking everything discussed in this post. I'm also wondering how you go about changing the bearings? I am fair with a wrench and plan to get a manual before I start. So far all I have done with the bike is basic maintenance. Should I consider tackling this job or seek outside help?
Thanks
Lenny
