Thursday, October 22, 2009 07:37 am | Is it possible to replace the seal on a 1200 without removing the engine and splitting the cases? Mu leak isn't too bad so could just clean the oil off ocasionally. Thanks. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 07:43 am | That is replaceable from the outside. May have to drop the exhaust to get to it easy. Pull the shift lever off, pry old seal out, pop in new seal.

Thursday, October 22, 2009 09:41 am | Remove the shifter lever. Use a seal pick, or a small screw in the old seal and then pull it out, be very careful not to scratch the aluminum around the outside of the seal. The new seal just pushes back into the same location over the shaft. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 04:22 pm | Thank you very much Gary and Raymond. I hope the seal is available from Honda. I will find out tomorrow. In removing the exhaust I found that the left engine guard would not come out first. I had to loosen the guard and then remove the exhaust at the same time. I may cut the rear mounting tab off the guard and either weld it back or drill and thread a small plate on it after installing the exhaust. |
