Wednesday, October 21, 2009 11:39 am | I carry a spare front and rear with me in my trailer. I rigged up a rear tire carrier that is underneath the back end of my trailer. Works out pretty slick! And once you get over the thought of laying your bike down on the ground, it was back on it's feet in about 15 minutes. I even changed out a tire on my bike when I went to Arkansas earlier this month. Nothing to it. And dealers still want to charge an hour to change that tire. sighhhhhhhhh The Countdown begins! Wednesday, October 21, 2009 11:53 am | Pretty good video, I did notice 2 things I want to mention, I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to use anything on the wheel nuts, no lube or anti-seize, I could be wrong about that, but I don't think so. When setting the bike back up, put it in gear first, to keep it from rolling. Well done overall! I'm sending the link to my newsletter editor for our newsletters in both chapters I'm involved in. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 02:45 pm | The final drive on the 1800 is substantially different from the 1500, the rear wheel bolts on exactly the same way as a car. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 07:34 pm | Demo was great! A whole 7 minutes from start to finish that is pretty darn good. I would love to see the rear tire changed on a GL-1500 as that is the Wing that I an currently riding. |

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 08:27 pm | Back in the pre 1800 days, the local Wing ace mechanic did a training seminar for Chap OK-S one evening. He demonstrated laying the bike down by himself, removed and replaced both front and rear wheels using only the tools contained in the original toolkit. It was quite an interesting demonstration! Thursday, October 22, 2009 05:46 am | A very informative video, even for me and I don't have an 1800. However, the ease of changing a rear tire sure makes another reason to buy one. I could never imagine laying my 1200 or 1500 on their sides to change a rear tire. I too would like to see a video or at least a detailed step-by-step description of the procedure. |

Thursday, October 22, 2009 06:47 am | Amazing how easy it is to change the rear tire on the 1800, But if you take it to a shop where they have a lift and the right tools most shops here charge you $80.00 to change a rear tire on an 1800. My 08 Wing First Baptist Church of San Jacinto

Thursday, October 22, 2009 09:16 am | That's because the guy changing the tire gets $40 and the guy Who supply's the shop and pays the business taxes gets $40 dollars. They both work for a living and that makes $80 dollars a fair price, if you think it's unfair then by all means do it yourself. 'Democrats spreading your wealth around since 1932'

Thursday, October 22, 2009 10:29 am | That's why I remove the wheels and take the wheels to the shop to install the tires, then bring them home and put them back on the bike. I used to install my own tires, down on the garage floor with tire levers and spoons, but arthritis has ended that practice! Friday, October 23, 2009 06:50 pm | I do my front wheel with it on the center stand at the parking lot of the bike shop. Just make sure that you have enough weight on the rear of the bike to keep it on the rear wheel,or a regular car jack ect. under the front of the engine. (Message edited on October 23, 2009) |

Sunday, October 25, 2009 09:03 am | As a 1200 owner , I am so jealous !!! I can easily do the front wheel with center stand, and a short chunk of 2X4 to keep the wheel off the garage floor a bit... but... I've never figured out how to do the rear without a bike jack... one needs to tighten and torque bolts on both sides of the wheel ( Brake caliber, and main axel nut ) Heavy sigh !!
