Tuesday, October 20, 2009 10:37 am | Car and truck by mileage, I have never driven few enough miles to do it on the one year time interval. The bike gets it once a year at lay up time unless I get to the mileage interval. Mower goes on engine hours, something I`d like to see on the other units as well. |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:42 am | By mileage for me. I don't even concern myself with winter time storage either. When it's due (like right now) I will change it and be good until the next 8k miles are put on the bike, which at this time of the year will probably be next May/June.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:53 am | I change the oil every 5,000 miles, whether it is 4 months or 1 year. Of course let's hope it doesn't take me a year to put on 5,000 miles. I might consider time if I only put 5,000 miles on it in two years, then I wouldn't want the bike sitting with old oil in it for a long period of time. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 01:19 pm | mileage here. I have a target of every 3000 miles, however in practice it is usually between 3500 and 4500 miles before it gets changed |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 02:15 pm | By mileage or time which ever one comes first. My 2nd. car I changed every 6 months but most of the time I would only have 500 to 1,000 miles on it. I just sold that car about 3 months because I didn't use it enough to keep it. My bike is usually by mileage (3000) my SUV is all most always by mileage (30000) also. Really we are all wasting oil by doing it at 3,000 miles. most manufactures recommend at least 4 or 5000 miles between changes, my Pontiac recommended 7,500 miles between changes. I do 3,000, I guess old habits are hard to break. My 08 Wing First Baptist Church of San Jacinto

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 02:40 pm | Currently my car gets changed on time. I put less than 3,000 miles on during 3 months and I have free maintenance coupons that expire if not used. Normally I change based on miles and I push the miles from 3000 to 5000. The only exception is when the bike is put away for the year it gets a fresh oil change no matter the miles. |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 02:51 pm | Miles... Every 5000 to 8000 depending on how lazy I am and where I have been.... I try to "time" my last seasonal oil change for the end of the year so I can change the oil and store my bike for he winter on a fresh zero mile oil change. Then in spring I just take her out and start riding.... Right now that timing looks to be at about 4500 to 5500 miles depending on whe the snow starts flying around here.... once the roads are salted I put the bike away until the spring rain washes it off. I aim for 5000 miles just because it is easy to remember...I use synthetic oil for it's extended change cycles...so at 80K and then at 85K and so on... If I am out on the road (like in August of this year) when the oil is due I just ride until I get home and then change it...sometimes I change at 4000 miles too if the timing is right(wrong?). But an oil change is about $20 so it's not a lot of money... ($19 per gallon of oil and $2.84 for the filter) Just my 2˘

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 04:33 pm | Everyone herein is correct in that all are monitoring the mileage and time the oil is used. In a perfect world, we might send a sample in to a lab for analysis before changing. These bikes don't wear the oil and the oil quality is so much better than 20 years ago. We probably could go 10,000 miles without harming anything but why risk it. I change oil between 2,500 and 5,000 miles and/or before winter storage. Cheap insurance for the motor/transmission. |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 05:53 pm | Most new cars have an oil life indicator. My STS has about 7,000 on the oil and is showing %60 life left. I have seen some go up to 17,000 before it indicated less than %10 left. Most Wing owners probably waste oil money, but it is cheap comfort. I change my Wing at 4,000 and my Harley at 5,000 because that's what the factory calls for( or once a year). Dredsel #4240 06 Nav,99 FXDWG GWRRA(life), AMA,(life)HOG(1994)PGR,Legion Riders. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 06:19 pm | Miles here. Used to be 3,000 but I've retrained myself considering the quality of newer oils and filters and cleaner roads and longer lasting engines ... it's 5,000 or there abouts now. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 06:32 pm | Dredsel, Agreed. I used to take our SLS to the dealer for an oil change every 3000 miles and always used Mobil 1. Then I finally found a maintenance tech that said to use the oil life indicator and only change it when it gets down to 25%....and I was amazed to find out that the thing would go to 8 to 9 thousand before it said to change the oil........JMHO |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 06:37 pm | I avg. about 15,000 per year on my GW and change every 5K as that eliminates keeping track, i.e. 5K, 10K, 15K, etc. I use Shell Rottela synthetic which is probably overkill but it gives me a peace of mind. My 03 had 104K trouble free miles before being totalled 3 months ago. Plan on the same schedule with the new one after the break in oil is changed. |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 08:34 pm | So, most of you do not change before putting away for winter if not due by milage? I probably have less than 1,500 since change and probably won't ride anymore this year as they have already salted many roads around here. I have been debating this to myself this year. |

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:40 pm | Y'all can dump your oil at 3k for dino, and syn at 5k if you want, not me. No more stress and strain as these engines gets, I push mine on dino to 5k, and I'm about to go to Valvoline synthetic and don't plan on changing before 8K. Filter changes at 5k, but I am not dumping perfectly good oil simply out of some Honda manual's statement. IMO, we waste a ton of good lubes doing this stuff cuz everybody else does. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 01:26 am | I do the same as Gene, about every 5,000 miles on the bike with synthetic. The car was changed the 1st week of February this year and only has about 2000 miles on it since then. If it wouldn't be for the daughter borrowing the car there wouldn't be 500 miles on the car since then. Time to change it now for the winter. |

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 03:37 am | Miles only. I don't store mine during the winter here in MI. At 213,000 miles on our '94 I have changed at 5,000 mile intervals when using dino oil and 10,000 intervals when using synthetic. It still requires no additional oil between changes using this system so that's the same system we have used on our '02 which has about 90,000 miles. |
