My wife complains that her legs are cold when we ride in the winter (due to cold air blowing on them.)} Would Air Wings on the front have any appreciable effect on the air on her legs? How have others solved this? Thanks.

Goretex over pants on top of the chaps or whatever she normally wears, zero wind or water whilst still maintaining excellent breath ability and allowing any sweat to pass right through this layer as though it were not there, and the inner layers of clothing will keep her comfortably warm without sweating.
When cold I use a Goretex outer jacket over my mesh jacket, then the mesh jacket becomes an insulating layer without overheating or sweating inside of it. This set up is good right down to minus 15 degrees tested by myself and my 10 year old on the back at night in Utah. The only thing we had any trouble with were the boots.

No mini skirts in the wintertime when riding a bike.

Joseph; Is your wing a SE? If it is you can buy the foot wings to go along with the hand/air wings to defleck the wind away from the bike. There's no information as to where you live so that we can be more helpful to you. Have you considered Electric Riding gear (Aerostitch,Gerbing,Wadder etc.)? Not knowing the conditions/temps that you ride in, how can we help you?

I forgot to add that the suggestions by Mr. Sykes is also helpful (sorry), also it's a good idea to fill out your profile and check it out from time to time because the information has been known to disappear from the board.

If the problem is at the juncture of the boot and pants you might want to try gaiters. My wife loves hers.

Get a 1pc riding suit, as from "First Gear". They're good down to 15F, and don't even utilize heat elements.

To answer your question they do make a difference but as stated above you need the upper and lower set. My wife says there is a huge difference when I turn them one way for cold and the other for hot riding. I also have the Baker set. However, you can't beat electric liners if its really cold. And lets be honest, when mama's not happy ain't no one happy. Keep her warm and comfortable.
Take care, Mike

the baker wings do work. Wife also wears Gerbing overpants along with the heated liner. The new heated insoles for the boots/shoes will also help

DO NOT tell her to "stop whining it's a motorcycle for goodness sake". Didn't work for me but did almost cause a wreck.

Yes the wings make a big difference to my wife.
HOWEVER, the Gerbing heated outfit did the real trick.
She raved so much about it, I bought one for me too. I agree with her. The Gerbing outfit is the trick for cold riding.

I have both the the upper and lower Baker Air Wings on my 1500 as well as the ones on the mirrors http://www.cyclemaxohio.com/inc/sdetail/20455 In my opinion, for the money you spend on them (which isn't much), you can't beat the performance. The ones out on the mirrors are supposed to help the passenger more than the rider, but I think the divert more air from the upper body instead of the legs. When the temp drops, I wear these to keep my legs warm http://www.cyclemaxohio.com/inc/sdetail/11330 . They're not leather, but they do the job and don't cost the big bucks that leather chaps cost. They're light weight and waterproof to boot. They also have an elastic cuff at the bottom so the cold air doesn't sneak up your legs.

When we rode to the west coast on a 1100(back in 99) we packed ski bibs, they roll up small and go on easy over the boots (some are more waterproof than others) and did a very good job on the legs.

Wind wings, First Gear Hypertex overpants and tall boots did the trick for my bride. She also has a heated jacket liner. I offered to get her heated pants she says she doesn't need them.

Insulated jeans.

A second pair of jeans over the first.

Heated pants.

Riding Boots (the long ones).

A third pair of jeans over top the other two pair? Not figure flattering, but warm.

One thing I did not see anyone post on this thread that my Grand Dad taught me. We were coming back from a trip and it got unseasonably cold. We did not have any cold weather gear with us. So we pulled into a convience store and he bought us each a pair of pantyhose, yes I said PANTYHOSE! Well they worked well, and I haven't felt the same since......lol. Actually whenever going on a long trip I pack a pair just in case it gets cold.

That's true, Panty hose are an essential in Backpacking, they weigh nothing, and are quite warm, get the ones that are only leg length, and then cut out the toes. They also make good tie downs, emergency bags, straps, repairs and even fan belts.

For warmth when caught out in the cold and riding, newspapers inside the chest and legs work very well too.

I've used newspaper inside my clothes before, but the heated pants would probably work better! She might put on her rain suit pants also.
I don't think the wind wings will keep her warm because my wife complained about the backs of her legs being cold.
