Both the left and right hand side pocket lids have disapperaed off my wing, and I'm looking for a fix. I have replacement lids, but would like to hear what you have done to keep them from coming off again. Pictures would also be appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

Rich, are you referring to the covers on the left and right fairing pockets?

sometimes the little tabs inside the housing break and there's no fix other than replace the whole housing. Surprisingly I don't think they're expensive.

Not sure what lids you are talking about. Could you take pic of the area where the lids go? If it is the pockets on ledt and right side I have never had problems with them.

Install a leash on everything on the bike that can come off, most often are the speaker covers, and the side covers. The older bikes could also loose the side box covers.
Use fishing line or dental floss, or for the side boxes on the classics, cables.

Of course you also should do any accessories like your GPS ect.

The problem is the pocket doors by the Co-rider. I was thinking about adding hinges, I just don't want then to be visible. I had read where someone posted about using a coat hanger to work as a hinge pin. Then I'll add a fastener so they don't fall off.

Please keep the ideas coming.

When closing the doors, pull on the release lever and close. Just pushing them closed puts too much pressure on the hinge.

We don't use those pockets much, so if they failed, I'd simply glue them shut. I suppose they are handy for long trips when every cubic inch of carrying capacity is important.

We never use them for this reason. They stay shut. However, after seeing some of these ideas ... might look at them again.

I use mine on every ride. Camera, sun screen, handkerchiefs etc. My 89 or 06 never broke. You just have to be careful when opening and closing. Knock on wood!

When I bought my previous 1500, one of the doors had velcro on the top of it. Both hinge pins were broken off, but the door stayed on without problem. I replaced the whole box as soon as I found one. They are always listed on ebay. As someone mentioned above, you should use the release lever when closing them. It will reduce stress on those brittle hinges.
